The Backless Sequin Ribbon Maxi Dress from Chic Atelier is designed around how it behaves under artificial light. Sequin and ribbon detailing catches every lamp and flash in a room, which is why this dress reads quite differently at a dinner table than it does on a dance floor, and why it photographs far better than a flat fabric would.
The cut is deliberately relaxed rather than tight. A slash neckline runs wide across the collarbones, spaghetti straps hold it at the shoulder, and the back is left open below them. From there the A-line skirt falls loose to an ankle-length hem, so the dress moves freely and never restricts you through a long evening on your feet.
It is made from a polyester fibre with slight stretch in a loose fit, and it pulls on over the head with no zip to fasten. Wear it to a cocktail party, an autumn wedding reception or a nightclub with heeled sandals and minimal jewelry, since the surface is already doing plenty. Hand wash cold and lay flat to dry. Store it hanging rather than folded, and avoid ironing directly over the sequins so the surface keeps its full reflectivity.
