The Pink Shirred Satin Midi Skirt from Chic Atelier is cut in a trumpet silhouette, which is the detail worth understanding. Rather than flaring evenly from the waist, it stays close through the hip and thigh and then releases into a flare below the knee, so the shape follows the body and then dramatically does not.
Shirring at the waist handles the fit. Rows of elasticated gathering pull the waistband in and stretch back out, which is why this works as a single size: the waist spans roughly eighty-six to ninety-two centimetres and adapts to what is inside it rather than dictating terms.
The fabric is a modal and polyester knit with high stretch and a satin face, so it has the sheen of satin with the give and softness of a jersey. Total length is around eighty-eight centimetres. Measurements are taken by hand and can vary by up to three centimetres. Wear it with a fitted knit and boots in winter, or a plain vest and sandals in summer. Machine wash cold and hang to dry. Wash it inside out on a cool cycle to protect the satin face, and reshape the hem while damp so the flare falls evenly.
