The Cotton Lyocell Umbrella A-Line Skirt from Chic Atelier is the most comfortable skirt in the range, and the fabric is the reason. The shell is roughly 77% cotton and 23% lyocell, a combination that breathes like cotton but drapes with the fluid softness lyocell is known for.
The cut is loose and umbrella-shaped, flaring wide from an elasticated natural waist to an ankle-length hem, so it skims the hip rather than gripping it. Pockets are set into the side seams, which is a small thing that makes an enormous difference to how often a skirt actually gets worn.
Lengths run from 64 cm in a small to eighty in a double extra large. The off-white colorway is lined in a polyester and cotton blend for opacity. There is no stretch in the shell, so the elasticated waist is doing all the accommodating, and it does it well. This is a commuting and daily-wear skirt above all: flat shoes and a plain tee, or loafers and a shirt for the office. Machine wash cold and hang to dry; lyocell blends soften with each wash rather than wearing out. Iron on a low setting if needed, as high heat can glaze a lyocell surface.
