The Water Resistant Everyday Tote from Chic Atelier is the large, plain, dependable bag that most wardrobes are missing. It is cut on a generous scale - the body measures between 30 and 50 cm across - so a laptop, a folder and a lunch go in without the sides bulging.
Water resistance is the feature worth paying attention to. The PU surface sheds a shower rather than soaking it up, which matters far more on a commute than any amount of styling detail. A zip closes the top, an interior zip pocket holds anything you would rather not lose, and a slit pocket on the outside takes a travel card.
The construction is soft rather than boxy, so it collapses flat when empty and fills out when loaded. A single adjustable strap lets you carry it on the shoulder or shorten it for the hand. It comes in four colors - black, brown, blue and khaki - all solid, with a small lettered detail as the only decoration. This is PU, not animal hide, so cleaning is a wipe with a damp cloth rather than a conditioner. The dark colorways in particular hide the scuffs a daily commute inevitably adds. It works as a work bag through the week and a travel tote at the weekend.
