The Oxford Weekend Duffle Bag from Chic Atelier is the bag you keep by the door for anything shorter than a proper holiday. At forty-five centimetres long, twenty-three deep and twenty-five high it takes two or three days of clothes, and it weighs only about five hundred and thirty grams empty.
Oxford fabric is the reason it is both light and tough. It is a tightly woven synthetic with a ribbed surface, used for luggage precisely because it resists abrasion at the corners where a duffle wears out first, and it is waterproof rather than merely shower resistant.
The useful detail is the separated wet and dry compartment. A swimming costume, a towel or gym kit goes in one end without soaking everything else, which is what turns a weekend bag into a gym bag and a beach bag as well. A full-length zip runs across the top, and five colours are available: black, grey, blue, purple and pink. Wipe clean with a damp cloth and let it air dry fully before storing, since a closed damp bag will hold a smell. It packs flat when empty, so it stores in a wardrobe without taking a shelf to itself. Ultra light construction also means more of your airline allowance goes on what is inside.
