The High Waist Floor Length Skirt from Chic Atelier does the one thing a long skirt has to do properly, which is move. Cut loose and full from a high waist, it falls all the way to the floor without gripping the hip or thigh, so it stays cool in heat and reads elegant rather than restrictive.
The high rise is doing real work here. Setting the waistband above the natural line shortens the torso and lengthens everything below it, and because the skirt is A-line rather than straight, the volume falls away from the body instead of clinging to it. A geometric pattern breaks up what would otherwise be a large expanse of plain fabric.
It is made from a woven polyester broadcloth with no stretch, chosen because a non-stretch weave holds the A-line shape and drapes in clean vertical lines rather than collapsing. Lengths run from sixty-six centimetres in a small to seventy-eight in an extra large. Wear it with a tucked shirt and flat sandals for the office, or a vest and heels for an evening. Machine wash cold and hang to dry. Because there is no stretch anywhere in the weave, check the waist measurement against the size chart before ordering rather than sizing by eye.
